Final choice + Reflection

Sunday, June 27, 2010, 3:37 AM

Our final choice is outfit one. We chose this outfit because it was reasonably priced at $71.80, and it was suitable for the occasion (birthday party). It is also not too conservative or old-fashioned, thus our model can wear it; there are also style lines that make Yong Qing seem taller. The fabric is comfortable and our accessories are also suitable for the outfit.

Reflection: We learnt many things about shopping for clothes, as we have to consider the suitability of the outfit for the occasion, complexion, preference etc. and also how to choose clothes that compliment, but are also within budget.

We went to shop with two other groups. The first store we went to (Isetan) had very few people, thus we hogged the changing room; our models stayed in the changing room while us, the 'friends', picked out clothes. However, after a while, the shopkeepers seemed suspicious of us and we took some photos and left. The second shop we went to (Forever 21) had very long queues and the clothes there were more casual than formal, and not suitable for the occasion; we did find some dresses, however, but the shopkeepers prevented us from taking any photos. Thus we had to find the clothes from their online catalogue.

From this task, we learnt that we have to make smart choices, especially when shopping, because many people tend to overspend outside of their budget and end up regretting it. Also, we learnt how to choose clothes that compliment and of a good quality material. We learnt to be more confident.

I think we could have improved more if we had spent more time looking at more clothes rather than giving up halfway and opting for the online version of the dress instead, which does not give us an accurate picture of how Yong Qing will look like in the dress. We could also have spent more time on accessories and tried to take better photos. ;D

We chose this dress because it is simple, conservative and formal. Black also a slimming colour. This dress is also extremely comfortable as it is a knit dress.

We also think that this floral cardigan adds colour and personality to the outfit. Without it, the dress will look very dull. Again, this is also very comfortable as it is 100% cotton.

This pair of shoes also goes very well with the rest of the outfit. It is dull but yet the strappy design is attractive, and so it does not bring attention away from the cardigan and dress.

In total, the dress costs $17.80, the cardigan costs $19.80, and the shoes cost $19.80 and the total cost is $57.40.

We chose this dress because it is made of velvet, hot pink. It comes down to knee-length. Its bright colour catches attention, thus we do not need many accessories.

This pair of shoes was found on Forever 21 for only $5! Even though they sparkle, their dull colour does not take attention away from the dress, and the fact that they are flats provide comfort.

In total, the dress cost $89 and the flats were $5, coming a total of $94.

We chose this green dress because it cost only $49 and It has paisley patterns across the dress and is spaghetti-strapped, which we think would look very cute with a matching headband and flats. It is also a light shade of green, so we need more accessories to spice it up.

We chose this pair of earrings (which cost $7.80) to go with the dress as their colours match and the design goes well with the dress.

We also managed to find this pair of metallic-looking flats from Forever 21. It is reasonably priced at $14.80, and its colour goes well with the green of the dress and the earrings.

In total, the items cost $49 for the dress, $14.80 for the shoes and $7.80 for the earrings, coming to a total of $71.60.

This is our first post. Whee ~~

First things first.

Model:
Yong Qing has a wedge/apple body shape. She's also quite tall with really pale skin (as everyone knows). Thus we are looking for clothes that flare out at the waist or show her legs. (: Also, it would be preferred if they were brightly coloured (pastel colours!) as it would make her pale skin stand out.

However, we actually went on our shopping adventure before the lesson on body shapes. We still managed to get two nice dresses, both from Isetan. I'll upload them later, but for now, an apt description of both:

The first dress costs about $89, which leaves not much for accessories, but we will try to make do. It's knee-length and shines, as the material is soft. It is also sleeveless and belted at the waist, creating more curves. The dress itself is showy enough so we are cutting down on accessories. However it is expensive.

The second dress looks very 'country-side' to me. It has paisley patterns across the dress and is spaghetti-strapped, which we think would look very cute with a matching headband and flats. It is also a light shade of green, so we need more accessories to spice it up. This is very possible as the dress is only $49!

We don't have any accessories yet, though.
